Welcome to ABA Services – Your First 30 Days
You’ve made it! After completing the questions, assessments, and observations, your child is ready to begin direct intervention using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies.
So… what happens next? Here’s a quick look at what to expect during your child’s first month.
Meet Your Clinical Team
Your child’s Clinical Team will work together to put the assessment recommendations into action.
-
Behavior Analyst (BA) – Oversees your child’s program, answers your questions, monitors progress, and adjusts strategies as needed. You’ll see them at least every other week, depending on your child’s program hours.
-
Behavior Technician (BT) – Works directly with your child at home on the schedule arranged in advance. They follow the goals and strategies designed by the BA and provide the clinically recommended hours for maximum progress.
Getting Your Home Ready
We’ll help you create a space that’s comfortable, positive, and low in distractions for sessions. This might include:
-
Access to your child’s favorite toys or activities
-
Quiet areas away from TV, loud music, or frequent phone calls
-
Access to spaces or items needed for goals (e.g., sink for handwashing, table for sitting and attending)
If there are areas of your home you’d like the team to avoid, just let us know—we’ll work with you while keeping goals and safety in mind.
Building Trust Through Pairing
In the first 30 days, our priority is for your child to enjoy working with the team.
We do this through pairing—spending time with your child while engaging in their favorite activities so they associate us with fun, not just hard work.
You might notice more play than teaching at first. That’s intentional. A strong, positive relationship helps your child stay motivated when more challenging goals begin.
Tracking Progress with Data
Before teaching new goals, we collect baseline data to understand where your child is starting.
-
BTs use secure electronic devices to record data each session.
-
BAs review this data often to make sure strategies are effective.
You’re always welcome to ask about the data or your child’s progress—we want you in the loop.
Handling Challenging Behaviors
Once new goals are introduced, your child may show challenging behaviors (e.g., tantrums, elopement, aggression) as they adjust. This is normal.
Your team will:
-
Share the Behavior Intervention Plan with you
-
Keep communication open
-
Use consistent strategies to support skill growth and positive behavior
